3...does the job..and works with a 7D and Sony DVR  Dec 16, 2010 By Blue Fish
I wanted a lav microphone to plug into my sony digital voice recorder, and so I got this one. I like that it's uni-directional as well.
I'm doing a lot of tests with it and have a big shoot at the end of this month, which will probably result in me posting those tests online for anybody who is curious about how it sounds.
It's a tad large in appearance, and the wind shield that comes with it really doesn't stop any wind distortion at all, so I'm going to look into getting a stronger one. For $30 I sorta hoped it would come with a descent one...but I was wrong.
The sound the sony gives off is not that fantastic, so naturally there is a lot of hissing and static, but that's not the microphones fault.
It picks up voices really well and I was very surprised with its performance.
I plugged it directly into my Canon 7D to see how it sounded--and, as with every mic you plug straight into the 7D-- it was very noisy and hissy as well. But, it sounded very good once it was all cleaned up in Soundbooth.

Also, I was pretty happy with how sturdy the clip was. It's actually a little hard to open the clip because it's well built. I've used a lot of lav mics that have cheap plastic clips that break easy, so I appreciated the clip on this mic a lot.

If you're looking for a cheap lav mic to use in the meantime while you save up for that Sennheiser lav set, then this is a descent one to get. It's also a good alternative since my shotgun mic can't always get the job done.
So yeah, I'm happy with it.
For $30 I really couldn't ask for more...
